Stanley Instrumentation and Electrical primarily serves the energy sector, with a strong emphasis on geothermal power generation. Our portfolio includes work on notable sites such as:

Te Huka 3 Commissioning

SIE assisted Ormat with the ‘Quality Assurance’ and ‘Commissioning’ of the new Te Huka 3 Power Station. In addition to providing technical expertise during the commissioning phase, the team from SIE played an integral role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the plant’s control and instrumentation systems.

Tauhara Power Station

During this exciting project, SIE assisted with the turbine hall electrical and instrumentation installation, terminations and testing. During this time, we assisted Fuji Electric/Sumitomo with QA inspections as well as commissioning onsite equipment.

Te Mihi SIS upgrade

In 2024 SIE carried out installation of the Te Mihi SIS upgrade (safety instrumentation system). This project was completed across 6-7 months which included work across x2 83MW steam turbine generators as well as the entire Te Mihi steam field. The project included the installation of 29 guided wave radars, 6 pressure transmitters, turbine vibration system upgrades and additional vibration probes, all tied into the new SIS control panels built offsite then installed by us.

Wairakei Drilling Water Upgrade

The ‘Drilling Water Project’ is part of Contact Energy’s continual effort to keep up with changing resource consents. Spanning over 8 km, the project pumps water from the Waikato River to the Poihipi reservoir to ensure future drilling and emergency fire water needs are covered. SIE’s scope of work covered three main sites: the booster pump station, the reservoir, and the lift pump station. This included the installation of two 250 kW motors, two 55 kW motors, multiple Rotork actuators, pressure, level and flow transmitters, VSDs, a harmonic filter, a 750 kVA 11 kV/400 V transformer, and 400 m of 185 mm² cable.
